What is the Alberta Opportunity stream?
This stream is for temporary foreign workers who are already working full-time in Alberta and have a full-time job offer from an Alberta employer in an eligible occupation.

Eligibility requirements for the Alberta Opportunity Stream (Applicant side)
Work Experience
- You must have been full-time, for a minimum of 30 hours a week
- You must have a minimum of 12 months full-time work experience in your current occupation in Alberta within the last 18 months, or a minimum of 24 months of full-time work experience in your current occupation in Canada or abroad within the last 30 months or both – this work experience can be a combination of experience gained in Alberta, in Canada (outside Alberta) or abroad.
- Post-Graduation Work Permit holders require a minimum of 6 months full-time work experience in your current occupation in Alberta within the last 18 months.
- You must have the required licensing, registration or certification to work in your current occupation in Alberta.
- Your current occupation must be directly related to your previous work experience.
- Your current occupation must be listed as an eligible occupation under the program and must not appear on the list of ineligible occupations.
【Caution】
- In addition to the general list of ineligible occupations, there is a separate list of ineligible occupations specifically for Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) holders.
Educational background
- You must have completed a minimum of high school education equivalent to Canadian standards.
- You must provide a copy of an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) issued by an organization designated by IRCC for your highest level of education if you hold a foreign credential.
- Post-Graduate Work Permit (PGWP) holders must meet the education requirements set by their graduating institution.
Language proficiency
For applications under NOC skill levels 0, 1, 2, or 3, applicants must have taken an approved English or French language proficiency test within the past two years and achieved a minimum score of CLB 5.

Job offer
- You must be working full-time for at least 30 hours per week.
- You must have at least 12 months of employment.
- You must already be working full-time in Alberta and have received a full-time job offer from an Alberta employer for an eligible occupation.
- You must have a Positive LMIA or hold an LMIA-exempt work permit.
- You must have received a job offer that meets or exceeds the provincial minimum wage.
Settlement funds
You must have enough money to support yourself and your dependent family members when you settle in Canada. However, this requirement is waived if you have a valid job offer and are legally authorized to work.

In this category, receiving a nomination from the Alberta provincial government to the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) significantly increases the chances of obtaining permanent residence, making it almost certain once nominated by the province.
Eligibility requirements for the Alberta Opportunity Stream (Employer side)
- The company’s head office and business operations must be physically located in Alberta.
- The employer must provide the applicant with a full-time, paid position in their current occupation for at least 12 months.
- The applicant’s work location (company facility) must be within Alberta. Home offices and virtual offices are not eligible.
Application process for the Alberta Opportunity Stream
AAIP has introduced the Expression of Interest (EOI) system since September 30, 2024: アルバータ州ノミネーションプログラムにEOI方式を導入【登録は2024年9月30日から開始】
01Register on the AAIP Online Portal
Register your profile in the EOI (Expression of Interest) online system on the AAIP portal. The information you enter will be scored based on the EOI points grid. Once your EOI is submitted, you will be entered into the selection pool.
02Receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA)
The AAIP processing office conducts regular draws and issues ITAs to those with the highest scores. Applicants who receive an ITA via email will also be sent further instructions for the application process.
03Apply online for the AAIP
Once an ITA is received, the applicant must complete and submit the online application, along with the $840 application fee, to the AAIP processing office.
04Receive a Nomination from the Province
Once the AAIP processing office completes the review, the applicant will receive the results. Being approved is referred to as receiving a “nomination.”
05Apply for permanent residence to IRCC
After being nominated, the applicant must submit their permanent residence application online to IRCC within six months.
06Review by IRCC
After the review is completed by IRCC, the applicant will receive a letter called the Confirmation of Permanent Resident (CoPR).
07Landing
Applicants from outside Canada will enter Canada with their Confirmation of Permanent Resident (CoPR). Applicants from within Canada can complete the landing process online.
08Receive your Permanent Resident (PR) card
Your PR card will be delivered to the designated address within Canada within a few months.
