Why did you decide to immigrate to Canada?
I wanted to leave Japan, where almost everyone is Japanese, and interact with people who have different ways of thinking and different cultures. Canada is a country where many immigrants come together, so I expected to meet all kinds of people. Another major deciding factor was the system under which children can attend public school free of charge if a parent holds a study permit. Canada offered the ideal environment where I could study and my children could receive a local education.

What was the most memorable part of the process?
The time between leaving Japan, arriving at Toronto Pearson International Airport and actually receiving my study permit was genuinely nerve-racking. Future outlook and a message for those planning to travel to Canada
Summer in Canada is wonderful. The humidity is low and it is not as hot as Japan. Because the days are long, there are all sorts of events on weekends. Lately I have been hooked on outdoor night movie screenings — you can enjoy a cool evening watching a film with snacks.
Part of what led Ms. K and her children to choose Canada was her wish to "meet people from all over the world, learn English, and learn that there are many different sets of values — and for my children to gain the same."
Obtaining the visa was not easy, but they got through it all, including the procedures at the airport on arrival, and we are all delighted to hear they are now having experiences in Canada that are quite different from Japan.
School is about to start and things will get busy, but we hope they continue to enjoy life in Canada.
