A Chinese National Refused on a Self-Filed Short-Term Language Study Visa: Approved on Re-Application|Client J

This is the case of a Chinese national with permanent residence in Japan whose son planned a two-month short-term language programme during his university spring break. Even for a short stay, some nationalities must apply in advance for a Temporary Resident Visa (TRV), and a self-filed application was refused.
Judging that filing on their own would be too difficult, the family asked Shiraishi VisaJP Canada — which had a track record with Chinese nationals — to file on their behalf.
We asked Shiraishi VisaJP Canada, which had experience with Canadian visa applications for Chinese nationals, to file on our behalf!

Key Points from the Consultant
After a self-filed TRV application was refused, the family asked us to file on their behalf and we re-applied.
TRV applications require a great many documents, and that alone is a burden for many people. On top of that, because most of the documents are in Japanese, they must be translated into English or French for submission to the Canadian immigration authority, which adds translation costs. I imagine all of this placed a considerable mental and physical strain on them.
Even so, the parents’ strong wish for their son to study abroad safely and our own wish to support that fully came together, and we received a great deal of cooperation in preparing the documents. As a result, the TRV was approved.
We hear the trip is coming up shortly, and we sincerely hope this period of study is enjoyable and rewarding.

Client Comments
Why did you choose Canada?
My son was going for a two-month short-term language programme over his spring break. One of the main reasons we chose Canada as the destination was the tolerant attitude of Canadians toward immigrants and foreign nationals.
What made you choose Shiraishi VisaJP Canada?
At first I had my son, a university student, handle the Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) application himself, but after about a month of processing we received a refusal. The reason given was that a temporary resident or visitor visa did not match the purpose of entry for a two-month short-term language programme. For a two-month short stay, a Japanese national needs no entry visa, but we were told that a Chinese national must apply through the Canadian embassy in the Philippines. We looked into the application documents and procedure ourselves, but it was extremely complicated, and I could not see the TRV being approved that way. Searching online, I found two candidate companies, and of those I asked Shiraishi VisaJP Canada — which had experience with Canadian visa applications for Chinese nationals — to file on our behalf.
What was the most memorable part of the process?
There were a great many documents to submit, and almost all of them had to be in English or accompanied by an English translation. Even small details needed attention — the way you sign, for instance, is different from Japan: you sign with the English spelling shown in the passport rather than writing your name in kanji.
How was your experience using Shiraishi VisaJP Canada’s services?
My son and I worked hard together filling in the long English application forms and translating the supporting documents, but there were quite a few mistakes and omissions. Each time, the consultant at Shiraishi VisaJP Canada pointed them out kindly and told us how to resubmit. Thanks to them we finished submitting the documents, and the visa for Canada was happily approved.
Future outlook and a message for those planning to travel to Canada
It is only two months, but it is a precious chance to study that we worked hard to obtain, so I hope he throws himself wholeheartedly into learning English.
