This time we assisted with study permit extension applications for two children.
Both of them were planning a temporary return to Japan, so we reviewed the application method and timing for each of them in light of the processing times at IRCC at the time and the dates they wished to travel.
One of them was continuing at the same school, so we filed the study permit extension from inside Canada. The other was moving on to a different school after the extension, so we chose to file from Japan, timed to coincide with the trip home.
The processing time for a study permit is not something we can control, but it is very important to think through the smoothest route in advance, taking into account travel plans, future study plans and the circumstances at the time of filing.
