Leave it to the experts. I really felt that immigration is something best left to immigration professionals. Jinzai Canada gave careful support and advice every step of the way, not only to me but also to my Canadian employer, and as a result I went smoothly from working holiday to study permit to work permit to permanent residence.
Before coming to Canada, were you thinking about immigrating?
I hadn’t made any concrete preparations for immigrating! (lol) Four years ago, I enrolled in an IT college in Vancouver to relearn IT in English. At first, my plan was to follow the curriculum: take one year of classes, do a three-month internship at a local company, get my diploma and then find a job back in Japan.
Why did you choose Visa JP Canada out of all the immigration consulting companies?
I figured a Japanese consultancy would handle the most cases for Japanese people, so I contacted several companies, and Jinzai Canada (now Visa JP Canada) responded the most carefully, so I decided on the spot.
What I want to do next
I have achieved the goals I set when I started studying abroad: “graduate from a school overseas” and “work at a company in an English-speaking environment.” Next, I’m going to take on my life goal: “to be involved in educational content.”
For personal reasons I dropped out of high school early, and since then I have studied for the high school equivalency exam (大検), English, computers and more using online materials. In short, after dropping out, I have been able to keep learning to this day thanks to countless learning websites on the internet. That’s why someday I want to be on the side that creates educational content and give something back.
In fact, I’ve already started: this year I became a curriculum advisor for the IT department of a Vancouver college called Van Arts. At the end of each term, the college invites people working in IT to join the teachers on a committee to improve course content, and I’m a member of that committee. I believe that being involved in Canadian education in this way now will pay off greatly for me someday.
Not just in Vancouver, but anywhere abroad, I think the more you take action yourself, the more opportunities and environments for growth await you, so I want to keep working hard every day without fearing failure or change.
A word for people planning to get Canadian permanent residence or a work permit
From what I’ve seen of people in the same situation, those who stayed in Canada all had a strong desire to stay and worked hard to get information. Some extended their internship period as long as possible to wait for a chance, and some went back to Japan once and then reapplied.
It depends on the case, but I think the more passion you have, the more opportunities open up. Good luck.
