Why did you decide to immigrate to Canada?

I have always been a slow starter. After getting a study permit in Canada, I spent two whole years at an English school before finally, just barely, going on to college.

College studies were hard, I also wanted to work part-time, and my parents in Japan did not complain about anything as long as I was studying in English, so I took things quite easy. I failed several courses, and there were times when I was having fun and did not go to school at all.

In 2019, I finally graduated from a two-year program after five years.

With a record like mine, I thought a PGWP was impossible, but when I asked the study abroad centre that had arranged my college admission, just in case, they told me, “We are not confident we can do it, but you might want to contact Shiraishi VisaJP Canada.”

What was the most memorable part of the process?

Just then, my grandfather in Japan became ill, so I went back to Japan right after I had started talking with an immigration consultant at Shiraishi VisaJP Canada. Then in July, right in the middle of the COVID pandemic, my Post-Graduation Work Permit was issued. I properly got a permit that lets me work for three years.
