What was the most memorable part of the process?
This time, I applied under the Family Class and was happily granted permanent resident status. Although it was during COVID-19, processing was completed about a year after the application, just as I had been told at the start, and I received my CoPR. I am very grateful to Ms. Shiraishi and all the staff.
Before getting to this point, I had applied on my own and had my documents returned. I have been naturalized in the United States, so I needed to prepare both U.S.-related and Japanese documents.
When filling out the required forms, some of the instructions written by the immigration authorities were ambiguous, and there were several places that could be read either way depending on interpretation.
After agonizing over which way to read them, the documents I prepared were sent back, and about three months were wasted. Looking back, I wish I had asked them from the very beginning.
