Obtaining Citizenship and Becoming a Canadian National|Ms. S

Ms. S, who had previously received support from Shiraishi VisaJP Canada with permanent residence applications and more, placed her absolute trust in us and again asked us to handle her Canadian citizenship application. Despite difficulties such as the ceremony invitation being delayed by more than six months due to COVID-19, she obtained citizenship in about 2 years and 6 months.
It was a long road to citizenship, but each time I nearly lost heart, she encouraged me with reassuring words.

Why did you decide to immigrate to Canada?
Ten years ago, I applied for citizenship once, passed the test and even received an invitation to the ceremony. However, I then realized that under Japanese law, acquiring a foreign nationality of your own will means automatically losing your Japanese nationality (Japan does not allow dual nationality), so I cancelled the citizenship ceremony at the last minute.
Over the following ten years, partly because I was caring for a family member, I went back and forth between Japan and Canada. Thinking that I would like to settle in Canada again in the future, I decided to take on the challenge of obtaining Canadian citizenship once more. After obtaining citizenship, I plan to submit a notification of loss of Japanese nationality to the consulate and obtain a long-term visa for Japan.
What made you choose Shiraishi VisaJP Canada?
The reason I chose Shiraishi VisaJP Canada is that Ms. Shiraishi had helped us in the past with my husband’s and daughter’s permanent residence applications, my PR card renewal and more. With her wealth of experience, professional knowledge and attentive care, I have absolute trust in her.
What was the most memorable part of the process?
About a year after applying, I had my citizenship test (which consists of a written test and an interview) and passed on the spot. However, the interview turned out to be an unexpectedly high-pressure one, and I was terrified.
(It seems they took note that this was my second citizenship application and that I had been going back and forth between Japan and Canada.)
I had been told that the ceremony notice usually arrives in about two months, but more than six months passed after that without any word, and then the whole world was plunged into COVID-19.
Along the way, Ms. Shiraishi asked the immigration authorities about the status of my application, but the reply was that the process was delayed due to COVID-19 and to please wait a little longer.
Just as I was about to give up, thinking it could not be helped in this situation, in November 2020 I was told that the long-awaited invitation to the ceremony had arrived, one week before the ceremony!
A full one year and four months had passed since the citizenship test. In the middle of the pandemic, I jumped on a plane from Japan to Vancouver, and I was able to attend the ceremony online from my quarantine hotel. The ceremony was held via Zoom, but I could still feel its solemn atmosphere. When I recited the oath in English and French, I thought about all the hardships I had been through and was overcome with emotion.
How was your experience using Shiraishi VisaJP Canada’s services?
When I was feeling down after the interview did not go well, and when I nearly lost heart many times because the ceremony notice did not come, I consulted Ms. Shiraishi of Shiraishi VisaJP Canada each time, and she encouraged me with reassuring words. Also, even though the online ceremony was early in the morning, she waited in front of her computer in case anything happened, which was very reassuring.
I am grateful that it was thanks to Ms. Shiraishi that I was able to obtain citizenship safely.
Thank you so much.
