While looking for a company to consult about a visa application, the client searched online, found Shiraishi VisaJP Canada at the top of the results and, believing us to be a trustworthy company with a proven track record, asked us to handle the application. Using one full year of Canadian work experience gained on a working holiday, the client obtained permanent residence through the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) in about 7 months.
To meet the CEC requirement of at least one year of Canadian work experience, I worked through the entire year of my working holiday without a gap.

The Hardest Part: Getting the IELTS Score I Needed for Permanent Residence
My IELTS Speaking score did not reach the required 7, so I ended up taking the IELTS four times in two to three months. Unlike the Academic module, the General module has many abstract topics that I wouldn’t know how to answer even in Japanese, and I struggled. Today there are many English schools run by Japanese companies that you can use online, so if you are going to take the test, I recommend using such a service, even for just the month before your test.
For speaking, I think you should practise so that you can keep talking about an abstract topic for about two minutes without stopping. If you are not used to British accents, talking with speakers of British English will also help you prepare for the listening section.
How was your experience using Shiraishi VisaJP Canada’s services?
I think the best part is being able to ask questions right away whenever something is unclear. You can research things yourself, but a lot of the information online is outdated or unreliable, and even when you think you have found the answer, you are always left feeling uneasy. By contrast, if you ask a consultant, you can get accurate, up-to-date information right away, even during a period like the pandemic, when the rules change often.
A Message for Those Aiming for Permanent Residence
When I came to Canada four years ago, I wasn’t thinking about immigrating at all and planned to go back to Japan in two or three years. So I chose a cheap private school (private college). However, if you are even slightly considering immigrating, you should definitely choose a public school. Being able to get a Post-Graduation Work Permit after graduating, and how you are treated during your job search, make a visible difference. With just a working holiday visa, you cannot apply for permanent residence through the CEC unless you work full-time from the first day to the last day of your working holiday, so I was stretched to the limit.
In addition, if you have already decided on the occupation you want in Canada, gaining as much work experience in Japan as possible will widen your options when applying for permanent residence. In my case, I had less than one year of experience in a related occupation in Japan, so I used one year of work experience in Canada (a working holiday after Co-op) and just barely met the immigration requirements. Rather than rushing to Canada, I think it is less stressful and more reliable to gain about three years of work experience and secure enough funds before coming.
Honestly, I am still deciding whether I will live in Canada for good, but obtaining permanent residence while I could was a very good thing, because it has increased my options in life. I hope my experience will be of some help to those aiming for permanent residence.
