This case study introduces Ms. S, who decided to settle in Canada after marrying her Canadian husband and obtained permanent residence through an outland Family Class application. Having helped her renew her study permit while she attended a Canadian university, Shiraishi VisaJP Canada also supported this application. Although she applied during COVID-19, she obtained permanent residence about 8 months after applying.
I was worried about my income and the effect of a past visa refusal, but the precise advice was very reassuring!

Why did you decide to immigrate to Canada?
I decided to settle permanently in Canada when I married my Canadian husband.
What made you choose Shiraishi VisaJP Canada?
While I was attending a Canadian university, I had asked Shiraishi VisaJP Canada to handle my study permit renewal, so I decided to ask them to handle my permanent residence application as well.
Vancouver is one of the warmest places in Canada, so I thought it was perfect for me, since I don’t do well with the cold, and I decided to live here. Since I couldn’t neglect my studies or my part-time job, I’m really glad I asked them to apply on my behalf and was able to cut down on unnecessary stress.
What was the most memorable part of the process?
Because I applied while I was still a student, what worried me most was my husband’s and my income and employment situation. I had also once been refused a visa when I studied in the UK, so I was worried about preparing the documents related to that as well.
When I consulted immigration consultant Ms. Sakurai, she told me that there is no particular minimum income requirement for the sponsor, so I was able to prepare with peace of mind. Also, when I was asked for a police certificate from the time I lived in the UK, Ms. Sakurai showed me how to get it, which was very reassuring.
Because I applied during the COVID-19 pandemic, I felt anxious watching friends who had applied for permanent residence through Express Entry get their permanent residence before me.
However, applying during the pandemic also had an upside. I chose an outside-Canada application, and with entry and exit restricted due to COVID-19, it was not easy to leave the country. Thanks to that, however, the immigration authorities introduced a measure exempting applicants from “landing,” so I was spared the trouble of going to the border to land. For a homebody like me, this was a windfall.
Future outlook and a message for those planning to travel to Canada
For those who are going to apply for permanent residence through the Family Class, I think the key to success is how quickly you can gather the required documents. There was a time when I, too, thought, “Why pay someone to do something I could do myself if I tried hard?” But I believe it is thanks to Ms. Sakurai that I was able to obtain permanent residence in just over 8 months.
Graduating from university, obtaining permanent residence and landing a full-time job all happened at the same time, and I couldn’t be happier. I don’t think I would have landed a full-time job without permanent residence, so I am grateful to Shiraishi VisaJP Canada!
