What was the most memorable part of the process?
Originally, I was going to apply for a work permit through the restaurant where I was working, but another staff member applied first, and the restaurant could no longer support me. The hardest part of the process was that, although I had planned to work, I ended up staying in Canada for a year with the same status as a visitor. I had already graduated from college, so I had no plans to go to another school, and I could not go back to Japan either, so it was tough. I gained a lot of weight (laughs).

In the end, though, I was able to obtain permanent residence, and I am really glad.
