This is the case of Ms. T, who decided to keep living in Canada with her common-law partner and asked Shiraishi VisaJP Canada, which had helped her since her study permit, to handle her Family Class permanent residence application. Despite the difficulty of her partner’s documents taking more than six months to prepare, she obtained permanent residence in approximately 9 months.

Why did you decide to immigrate to Canada?
To keep living in Canada with my common-law partner. At first, I was considering applying for permanent residence after attending school on a study permit, but I fell ill while I was back in Japan, and while I was away from Canada for a long time, my partner and I talked it over and decided that I would apply for permanent residence as his common-law partner.
What made you choose Shiraishi VisaJP Canada?
Shiraishi VisaJP Canada had already helped me choose a school and a course when I was thinking about going to school, so it was natural to ask them for this as well. They also had a track record of visa support for close friends of mine and for my company, so I felt reassured.
What was the most memorable part of the process?
The hardest part of the process of obtaining permanent residence was how surprisingly slow my partner was in preparing his documents. In the end, it took more than six months to gather them. He is easygoing and does things at his own pace by nature, but at the end I even had to tell him, “If the documents don’t come, I will go back to Japan when my current visa expires.”
How was your experience using Shiraishi VisaJP Canada’s services?
Some people say you can apply for Family Class permanent residence on your own, and in fact some of my friends did it themselves instead of using a representative, but I absolutely wanted to avoid losing time because of mistakes in filling out the required documents or sending the wrong documents after misreading the instructions, so I chose to have an immigration consultant apply on my behalf. In fact, there were no errors in my application documents, and the immigration authorities never asked me to resend anything. Whenever I had questions, my consultant, Ms. Yamashita, answered promptly, which made me feel very supported. I was also worried about my medical history, but when I explained my situation, Ms. Yamashita told me, “It should be fine,” and that put my mind at ease.
Future outlook and a message for those planning to travel to Canada
Mine was an outland application, so I had no permit to work in Canada while it was in process, and I spent a lot of time at home from the application until now. From now on I can work, so I want to look for a job and do my best to become part of Canadian society.
