From a Parent-and-Child Study Abroad During the Pandemic, Through College, to a Post-Graduation Work Permit|Ms. S

Ms. S came to Canada on a parent-and-child study abroad plan with her children’s education as the main aim, and went on to obtain a Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) after graduating from college. Dissatisfied with how another agency had handled her first study permit application, she turned to Shiraishi VisaJP Canada, who then supported her consistently from the study permit through to the PGWP application.
Immigration procedures come with anxieties and questions as a matter of course, and having each one dealt with carefully meant I could move forward with peace of mind.

Key Points from the Consultant
We have already filed two study permit applications on Ms. S's behalf and spent more than ten hours in consultation with her. This case was an unusual one: after graduating from college she had secured employment in a third country — neither Japan nor Canada — and the plan was to work there and then return to work in Canada using a Post-Graduation Work Permit. By having her return briefly to Japan from that third country and filing from Japan during that short stay, the assessment proceeded without significant difficulty. Because this differed considerably from an ordinary PGWP application, we prepared her for possible questions at the airport before she travelled, and we are glad it went smoothly. College studies, graduation, employment in a third country, a three-year PGWP, and now work in Canada — everything so far has gone exactly as she hoped. We will give our full support all the way through to permanent residence.

Client Comments
Why did you decide to immigrate to Canada?
I decided to move to Canada mainly for my children’s education. About four years ago, in the middle of the pandemic, I began considering a parent-and-child study abroad plan for the sake of English education for my children, who were then eight and six. I held online consultations with agencies in several countries, but in the end chose Canada on the basis of living costs, the balance between natural surroundings and urban amenities, the beauty of the English pronunciation, and the level of public safety. Encouragement from the Canadian teacher at the English school my children attended in Japan also helped me decide. Once we actually began living here, the winters were severe but the people were warm, and the children settled into life locally very quickly. The relaxed school environment in particular seems to have suited them well. I myself entered on a study permit for a language school, then went through a pathway course to a college and on to a two-year programme. Over roughly two and a half years we were fortunate in our local community and spent an extremely rewarding time here as a family.
What made you choose Shiraishi VisaJP Canada?
When I originally applied for my first study permit from Japan I had used a different agency, but the assessment did not progress as hoped and I could not sense any real good faith in how they dealt with me, which left me uneasy. In looking again for a partner I could trust, I saw Shiraishi VisaJP Canada’s website and felt reassured by their scale and their track record, and that is how I came to contact them.
I am extremely satisfied with that choice, and I have asked Shiraishi VisaJP Canada to support me consistently ever since.
What was the most memorable part of the process?
The immigration inspection when obtaining the PGWP stands out strongly. Perhaps because the airport in Halifax where we entered was relatively calm, the officer dealt with us very courteously and took his time. Only one other party was in the immigration queue at the same time, and in that quiet, unhurried atmosphere he went carefully through the information for the whole family.
The questions were gentle in tone and covered the basics: the type of permit to be issued, my relationship with my spouse, whether we had somewhere to live, my children’s schooling plans. We were not asked to produce the English translation of our family register that we had prepared in advance, but having it ready meant we could face the inspection with confidence.
I had also heard that a PGWP is normally counted from the date the approval letter is issued, but on this occasion we were fortunate enough to receive a full three years, for which I am very grateful.
How was your experience using Shiraishi VisaJP Canada’s services?
I have been consistently very satisfied with Shiraishi VisaJP Canada’s services. What stands out is that however trivial the question, the answer is always prompt and precise. Immigration procedures come with anxieties and questions as a matter of course, and having each one dealt with carefully meant I could move forward with peace of mind. They supported me over a long period, from my first visa application through to this PGWP, and I have felt they are a genuinely dependable partner. I am deeply grateful.
Future outlook and a message for those planning to travel to Canada
My goal from here is Canadian permanent residence. Immigration policy has tightened and I feel permanent residence is not easy to obtain, in the cities or in the regions, but I intend to apply myself properly to finding work here and to take each step in turn. I plan to continue asking Shiraishi VisaJP Canada for their support.
To anyone considering travelling to Canada, I would say: please do not be afraid of the difficulties. Between the change of environment and the weight of the procedures it is by no means an easy road, but every one of those experiences becomes something you carry forward. It may be a well-worn phrase, but I really do feel that nothing in life is wasted.
