Last Updated:October 20, 2026
This case study introduces Client H, who moved to Canada from Japan in junior high to study, graduated from a university in Toronto, found a job there, and obtained permanent residence through the Canadian Experience Class (CEC). Shiraishi VisaJP Canada supported Client H over many years, from the study permit at university entry to the Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) and the permanent residence application. While Express Entry invitation scores remained high, Client H built Canadian work experience and added a French language score, received an invitation, and obtained permanent residence about 7 months after applying.
Really felt like she was part of my team and was rooting for my success.

Why did you decide to immigrate to Canada?
I moved to Canada from Japan to study abroad, and ended up sticking around for the lovely nature and the better education here. I graduated from the University of Toronto (UofT) and got a job in Toronto, which naturally led me to consider permanent residence (PR).
What made you choose Shiraishi VisaJP Canada?
I’ve worked with the Shiraishi VisaJP Canada team since applying for my study permit back in university. They are super detail-oriented and trustworthy with paperwork, and they are also supportive of YOUR own journey, providing personalized advice for each unique situation. After working with them for my study permit and Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP), I really didn’t hesitate to work with them again for PR!
What was the most memorable part of the process?
I had a 3-year PGWP and was waiting for my Express Entry invitation to apply for PR, but I didn’t get my invitation for about 2.5 years… so it was really a nail-biting experience! I’d sit around feeling frustrated because you don’t know what else you can do to increase your chances, and then I’d send Yumiko an email with a desperate idea going like “what if I try THIS… that would work, right??”
But she would always respond with integrity and professionalism, and would take my frustrations seriously. I really felt like she was part of my team and was rooting for my success. I ended up studying French (one of my desperate ideas) and increasing my CRS score, so I really appreciate her looking at that and evaluating what I needed to do to increase my odds!
How was your experience using Shiraishi VisaJP Canada’s services?
Yumiko and the team are consistently fantastic at what they do. There are always limits to what you can read online, and you can get misled by old or incorrect information, so I find that the expertise of the consultants is well worth it. Beyond the knowledge, the entire team is very precise with their responses, so I didn’t worry about my paperwork at all while waiting to hear back the final results.
Future outlook and a message for those planning to travel to Canada
I’ve been here half my life and I absolutely love the nature and the diverse community here. I didn’t understand a word of English when I moved here, but here I am, thanks to friends and neighbours who were friendly and approachable!
Additional Comments
Visa and PR application processes can be full of frustrations and questions. But you don’t have to do it alone. The Shiraishi VisaJP Canada team is great at alleviating your concerns about paperwork and current trends in the visa and PR situation. 10/10 would recommend 🙂
Key Points from the Consultant
We have had the pleasure of supporting H over the years, from work permit applications through to their permanent residence application.
With Express Entry invitation scores remaining consistently high, obtaining an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residence was challenging, even for someone like H, who had graduated from a Canadian university and achieved a perfect score on an English language test.
Despite these challenges, H continued to gain valuable Canadian work experience and also took on the challenge of learning French, obtaining a score on a French language proficiency test. These efforts played an important role in helping H achieve permanent residence.
Having witnessed H's dedication and perseverance throughout this journey, we are truly delighted that they have successfully obtained permanent residence in Canada.
We sincerely appreciate the trust H has placed in Shiraishi VisaJP Canada over the years and the opportunity to assist with these important applications. We wish H continued success and all the best in their future endeavors in Canada.
