What is the Tourism and Hospitality stream?
This stream gives foreign workers with Ontario work experience in eligible skilled trades the opportunity to apply to permanently live and work in Ontario. Express Entry is required.

Eligibility requirements for the Tourism and Hospitality Stream (Applicant side)
Current employment status
- You must reside in Alberta and be employed in an eligible occupation under the Tourism and Hospitality Stream.
- You must hold a valid work permit supported by a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) for an eligible occupation. *Note: Maintained Status (i.e., waiting for a decision on a work permit application) is not considered a valid work permit.
Work experience
- You must be working full-time, which means a minimum of 30 hours per week.
- At the time of application, you must have completed at least 6 consecutive months (or 780 hours) of work in Alberta.
- You must be employed by the same employer who provided the job offer in Alberta.
- Your work must be paid and meet provincial employment standards.
- You must hold a valid temporary resident status approved by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) if you applied within Alberta or elsewhere in Canada.
Educational background
- You must have completed a minimum of high school education equivalent to Canadian standards.
- If your education was obtained outside of Canada, you are required to submit an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) from an organization designated by IRCC. However, this requirement is waived in the following cases:
- You hold a degree, diploma, or certificate from a Canadian post-secondary institution, technical college, or secondary school, and the institution is recognized in the Directory of Educational Institutions in Canada or listed as an authorized, registered, or licensed institution. Additionally, it must be verified whether the institution had the authority to grant your qualification.
- You have a valid Alberta Qualification Certificate or a trade certificate recognized by Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training (AIT).
Language proficiency
The applicant must have achieved a CLB 4 or higher on an approved English or French language test, taken within two years of their application.

Job offer
- You must have a full-time job offer or employment contract from an Alberta employer.
- Your employment must be in an eligible occupation that meets the program’s criteria.
- You must have 6 consecutive months (780 hours) of work experience with your current employer.
Additionally, the job offer or employment contract must be signed by an employer who is legally established and verifiable in Alberta, and the following offer is required.
- You must work in a genuine employer-employee relationship, where you are continuously paid for your work.
- You must work full-time, which means a minimum of 30 hours per week.
- Your job offer must be for a minimum of 12 months.
- Your salary must meet or exceed the provincial minimum wage.
- Your wage must meet the minimum LMIA requirements or be equal to or higher than the entry-level wage for your occupation in Alberta, as verified on the Alis website.
- Non-wage compensation, such as company ownership benefits, is not considered part of your base salary or wages.
In this category, receiving a nomination from the Alberta provincial government to the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) significantly increases the chances of obtaining permanent residence, making it almost certain once nominated by the province.
Eligibility requirements for the Tourism and Hospitality Stream (Employer side)
The employer’s primary business activities must belong to an eligible industry, as defined by the Worker’s Compensation Board (WCB) – Alberta industry code or exempt activities. You must demonstrate that your employer has valid WCB coverage or is exempt from needing coverage through a WCB clearance letter at the time your application is submitted.

Application process for the Tourism and Hospitality Stream
AAIP have introduced the Expression of Interest (EOI) system since September 30, 2024.:アルバータ州ノミネーションプログラムにEOI方式を導入【登録は2024年9月30日から開始】
01Register on the AAIP Online Portal
Register your profile in the EOI (Expression of Interest) online system on the AAIP portal. The information you enter will be scored based on the EOI points grid. Once your EOI is submitted, you will be entered into the selection pool.
02Receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA)
The AAIP processing office conducts regular draws and issues ITAs to those with the highest scores. Applicants who receive an ITA via email will also be sent further instructions for the application process.
03Apply online for the AAIP
Once an ITA is received, the applicant must complete and submit the online application, along with the $500 application fee, to the AAIP processing office.
0404 Receive a Nomination from the Province
Once the AAIP processing office completes the review, the applicant will receive the results. Being approved is referred to as receiving a “nomination.”
05Apply for permanent residence to IRCC
After being nominated, the applicant must submit their permanent residence application online to IRCC within six months.
06Review by IRCC
After the review is completed by IRCC, the applicant will receive a letter called the Confirmation of Permanent Resident (CoPR).
07Landing
Applicants from outside Canada will enter Canada with their Confirmation of Permanent Resident (CoPR). Applicants from within Canada can complete the landing process online.
08Receive your Permanent Resident (PR) card
Your PR card will be delivered to the designated address within Canada within a few months.
