  • You must hold a valid work permit supported by a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) for an eligible occupation. *Note: Maintained Status (i.e., waiting for a decision on a work permit application) is not considered a valid work permit.

Work experience

  • You must be working full-time, which means a minimum of 30 hours per week.
  • At the time of application, you must have completed at least 6 consecutive months (or 780 hours) of work in Alberta.
  • You must be employed by the same employer who provided the job offer in Alberta.
  • Your work must be paid and meet provincial employment standards.
  • You must hold a valid temporary resident status approved by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) if you applied within Alberta or elsewhere in Canada.

Educational background

  • You must have completed a minimum of high school education equivalent to Canadian standards.
  • If your education was obtained outside of Canada, you are required to submit an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) from an organization designated by IRCC. However, this requirement is waived in the following cases:
    • You hold a degree, diploma, or certificate from a Canadian post-secondary institution, technical college, or secondary school, and the institution is recognized in the Directory of Educational Institutions in Canada or listed as an authorized, registered, or licensed institution. Additionally, it must be verified whether the institution had the authority to grant your qualification.
    • You have a valid Alberta Qualification Certificate or a trade certificate recognized by Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training (AIT).

Language proficiency

The applicant must have achieved a CLB 4 or higher on an approved English or French language test, taken within two years of their application.

  • You must work full-time, which means a minimum of 30 hours per week.
  • Your job offer must be for a minimum of 12 months.
