Obtaining a Work Permit as a Cook｜Client D

After a working holiday and an RO visa (the so-called second working holiday), Client D, who had continued working in Canada, was referred by the employer to Shiraishi VisaJP Canada and asked us to handle a work permit application. Even amid the uncertainty of the COVID-19 lockdown that began right after signing, the client received courteous support and obtained a two-year LMIA-based work permit in about 5 months.
Although I had worries during COVID-19, they always supported me courteously, and I successfully obtained my visa.

Why did you decide to immigrate to Canada?
Right after graduating from university, I went to Australia on a working holiday, and after that I came to Canada on a working holiday visa. One year was not enough, so after my working holiday I switched to the RO visa, known as a “second working holiday.”
In Australia, in Canada and, briefly, in Japan, I worked as a kitchen helper.
On the RO visa, I held two jobs: one as a kitchen helper at a restaurant and one at my current workplace. At my current workplace, we make prepared foods and deli items for a supermarket, and I had been working there since my working holiday. About four months before my RO visa expired, I talked to the company, and they agreed to support my work permit as a cook.

On my employer’s recommendation, I went to Shiraishi VisaJP Canada in mid-March to sign a contract for the visa application service.
What was the most memorable part of the process?
Right after that, a state of emergency was declared in Vancouver due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and restaurants and other businesses all closed.
While many people lost their jobs as restaurants and service businesses closed, my current workplace is a supermarket (grocery store), which counted as essential work, so I never lost my job and was able to keep working the whole time.

Although I had worries during the COVID-19 pandemic, they always supported me courteously. They answered my questions quickly and precisely and encouraged me, which was very reassuring. And recently, I successfully obtained a two-year work permit. I was never once unable to work while waiting for the visa to be issued.
