Why did you decide to immigrate to Canada?
I entered Vancouver on a working holiday in January 2020. My original goal was to make friends locally, find a job in eyelash or beauty work, and make memories over one year.
In Japan, I had worked at a salon and also held a hairdresser’s licence. I had been researching salons in Vancouver while still in Japan. Luckily, that salon was hiring an eyelash technician, so I was able to work there.
However, COVID-19 brought a lockdown, and life under self-restraint began. Most of my Japanese friends went back to Japan, but I decided to stay a little longer to see how things went. In the meantime, I came to want to stay in Vancouver, and my current salon agreed to sponsor my visa.

What was the most memorable part of the process?
