Why did you decide to immigrate to Canada?
I first consulted Shiraishi VisaJP Canada before graduating from university in the United States. In the US, you can work for one year after graduating on a visa called OPT, but the chances of turning OPT into a work visa or permanent residence are low.
I had lived in the US since high school and could not imagine going back to Japan at all, so I thought that if the US was not possible, Canada would be fine. Vaguely thinking that Vancouver, directly north of where I lived on the map, might be good, I contacted several companies in Canada.
What made you choose Shiraishi VisaJP Canada?
Shiraishi VisaJP Canada always replied quickly, and both the assistant I first spoke with and Ms. Shiraishi, the immigration consultant in charge of my case, had a lot of knowledge and experience and were also friendly. They genuinely listened to my situation and wishes, which made me feel really good, so I decided to go with them.
What was the most memorable part of the process?
I applied for a working holiday from the US, and as soon as I got the visa, I had an online interview with a company introduced by Jinzai Canada, Shiraishi VisaJP Canada’s sister company. They hired me right away.
Actually, there was a business I wanted to do in Canada or the US, and working at a restaurant was completely different from what I wanted to do, but Ms. Shiraishi said that if I worked hard for three years I could get permanent residence, so I believed her and decided to do my best for three years.
Right after I started working on the working holiday, I had few shifts, and since I had heard that I would need to work full-time for it to lead to permanent residence, I got anxious, but Ms. Shiraishi also helped me negotiate with my employer for more shifts. Restaurant work turned out to be surprisingly beneficial for me in some ways, and I kept going with a positive attitude, thinking I was gaining good experience.
After the working holiday, I obtained a work permit with the same company. Ms. Shiraishi applied at just the right time, counting back from my working holiday expiry, so I was able to switch visas smoothly.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, I reached one year of work experience in Canada, so I took an English test. I was confident in my English, but I felt unwell on the test day and my score was not as good as I had expected, so I panicked. But Ms. Shiraishi told me to register in Express Entry with that score for now and update it if I got a better score later, so I did.
I had signed up for a second English test and was preparing for it when an ITA arrived before I could retake it, which surprised me. Since they had told me in advance which documents would be needed after an ITA, I prepared them right away and applied immediately. Ms. Shiraishi had told me the review would take about six months after applying, so I was expecting that, but amazingly, the review was completed and I obtained permanent residence just two months after applying.
How was your experience using Shiraishi VisaJP Canada’s services?
Looking back, as soon as I decided I wanted to live in Canada, I consulted Shiraishi VisaJP Canada and did everything as they told me. And then I really did get permanent residence in two years. I am amazed. If I had stayed in the US, I would never have been able to get permanent residence, so I think Canada is amazing. And Shiraishi VisaJP Canada, which guided me like this, is amazing too.
I am really glad I trusted them and followed what they told me.
Future outlook and a message for those planning to travel to Canada
From now on, I want to go back and forth between Canada and the US and pursue the business I have wanted to do.
