Using Work Experience as an Automotive Mechanic in Japan to Obtain Permanent Residence｜Client I

You helped me all the way from my job search to obtaining permanent residence.

Immigration Consultant

Yuki Shiraishi

Born in Japan. After earning a Bachelor's degree from the University of Michigan, she worked for six years in New York as a marketing consultant at a major travel agency, while also studying in an MBA program at the City University of New York. After returning to Japan, she managed the visa center of the same travel company, handling various international visa applications for foreign clients.

Why did you decide to immigrate to Canada?

I chose a Canadian working holiday visa because, compared with Australia, the pronunciation is clear. I wanted to be able to speak English, so I decided to go to Canada.

During my year in Canada, I worked as a dishwasher at a restaurant. As my visa was about to expire, I thought: I want to stay in Canada longer. I don’t want to go back to Japan yet. If I go home without English skills I am satisfied with, I will regret it. Torn by these feelings, I consulted a consultant at Shiraishi VisaJP Canada whom I had found online, and learned that my work history and skills as a mechanic could be put to use in Canada as well, so I walked into automotive companies and handed out my résumé.

Shiraishi VisaJP Canada has an employment division called Jinzai Canada, and with their guidance as well, I was fortunate to find a company willing to support my visa, and a Shiraishi VisaJP Canada consultant applied for my work permit on my behalf.

What made you choose Shiraishi VisaJP Canada?

What led me to ask Shiraishi VisaJP Canada was an information session. The explanation was very sincere and easy to understand, and it cleared away the uncertainty I had been feeling about my future. From then on, I set my sights on permanent residence.

What was the most memorable part of the process?

To apply for permanent residence, I needed an English test score. I struggled to reach the score I needed, and it took a total of eight tests before I was finally able to apply.

The permanent residence application process was very complicated. So many documents were required, and checking that their contents were correct was hard work; preparing all of them took a great deal of time, physical energy and mental strength. I don’t think I could have moved the application forward on my own.

How was your experience using Shiraishi VisaJP Canada’s services?

The Shiraishi VisaJP Canada consultant supported me throughout and checked each of those documents one by one. Thanks to their precise instructions and quick responses, I was able to proceed with my permanent residence application with peace of mind. During the review, when additional documents were requested and it turned out I could not prepare them, they suggested alternative documents to submit and even drafted the explanation to go with them. As a result, my application was approved with those alternative documents.

Future outlook and a message for those planning to travel to Canada

If you are also thinking of obtaining permanent residence, please stay positive, be patient and never give up. I am not especially clever, but the one thing I can say with pride is that I never give up.

From here on, I will work on improving my job skills. To everyone aiming for permanent residence: let’s all keep going. To everyone at Shiraishi VisaJP Canada, thank you very much.
