After obtaining permanent residence, you must intend to live, work and establish yourself economically in Ontario.
Federal Skilled Worker
When registering for Express Entry as a Federal Skilled Worker, candidates must score at least 67 points based on six selection factors: education, language skills, work experience, age, arranged employment in Canada, and adaptability.
In this category, receiving a nomination from the Ontario provincial government to the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) significantly increases the chances of obtaining permanent residence, making it almost certain once nominated by the province.
Application process of the Human Capital Priorities Stream
01Register for Express Entry
Once you meet the eligibility requirements, register your profile online through Express Entry. In your profile, When you register your profile with your intended province of residence set as “Ontario” or “All Provinces”, your score is calculated and you are given a profile number.
02Issuance of Notification of Interest (NOI)
Applicants who are registered in the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) Express Entry system and meet the other eligibility requirements will receive a Notification of Interest (NOI) from Ontario. This notice indicates that Ontario is interested in the candidate.
There is no advance announcement of the minimum Express Entry score or the occupations for which NOIs will be issued.
03OINP online application
After receiving the Notification of Interest (NOI), the applicant must complete the OINP online application within 45 days. The application fee of $1,500 must be paid online.
04Receive a nomination from the province
Once the review at the OINP processing office is complete, the applicant will receive the results. Passing the review is referred to as being nominated.
05Update your Express Entry profile
Once nominated by the province, you will be asked in the IRCC Express Entry system whether you accept the nomination. Accepting the nomination adds 600 points to your profile.
06Receive an Invitation To Apply (ITA) from IRCC
An ITA is the right to submit a permanent residence application, and only after receiving the ITA can you submit your application. IRCC conducts regular selections called “drawings,” where ITAs are issued to candidates with the highest points in the pool. If you do not receive an ITA, you will remain in the selection pool for up to one year. Applicants who have been nominated by the OINP and have had 600 points added are certain to receive this Express Entry ITA.
07Submit a permanent residence application to IRCC
If you receive an ITA from Express Entry (in a draw for candidates who have been awarded 600 points as a provincial nominee), you must apply online (Provincial Nominee Class: Express Entry) from your own IRCC Express Entry account within 60 days of receiving the ITA.
08Review by IRCC
Once the permanent residence application has been submitted and the review by IRCC is complete, the applicant is issued a letter called the Confirmation of Permanent Residence (CoPR), and the review of the permanent residence application is finished.
09Landing
Once the permanent residence application is approved, applicants inside Canada can download their CoPR (virtual landing). Their status becomes permanent resident (PR) the moment they download the CoPR. Applicants outside Canada must complete the procedure to receive their CoPR by mail and must arrive in Canada before their visa expires.
10Receive your Permanent Resident (PR) card
A few months after landing, your PR card will be delivered to your designated address in Canada.
