Building Work Experience in Japan and Using That Background to Obtain Permanent Residence｜Client K

It was a long journey of studying in Canada, getting a PGWP, BCPNP and then the immigration application, but I have finally become an immigrant.

Why did you decide to immigrate to Canada?

I had come to Vancouver and other Canadian cities several times for travel and for language training in high school and university. The city centre is urban, yet large parks, the ocean and the mountains are close by, with plenty of nature, making it a very comfortable place to live, and I fell in love with Canada.

As a student, I studied in Vancouver for one year. One year did not feel like enough, but I had taken a leave of absence from university, so at that time I had to return to Japan.

I had decided to come back to Canada after gaining a few years of work experience in Japan, so I had permanent residence in mind from that time on.

What made you choose Shiraishi VisaJP Canada?

Shiraishi VisaJP Canada had helped me with visa procedures when I was a student, and several friends from college had already used their services, so I asked Shiraishi VisaJP Canada to handle this application as well. When I actually spoke with them in a counselling session, they explained everything clearly and carefully, and their email replies were quick, so I felt I could ask them with confidence.

Also, with permanent residence applications, I think the points to watch out for and the rules change frequently, and if you apply by yourself, just finding the correct information among a huge amount of information takes a great deal of time. My job was busy, with frequent overtime, and I did not have the mental capacity to spend energy on my visa outside of work, so I thought it was a wise decision to leave it to professional immigration consultants.

What was the most memorable part of the process?

The hardest part of the process of obtaining permanent residence was the English test. Both CELPIP and IELTS are expensive, so I wanted to get my target score in one attempt if possible.

I did not go to a school or use a tutor, but for about a month I tried to study a little every day after work. However, I was always tired after work, so it was hard to stay focused.

Future outlook and a message for those planning to travel to Canada

Until now, I have worked hard with the goal of obtaining permanent residence, but I feel I can finally stand at the starting line. Having obtained PR, I think the range of things I can take on at work will expand, so I would like to keep working hard to advance my career.

As with COVID-19 this time, the review may take longer than usual because of unexpected events, so I recommend starting with whatever you can prepare, even a little, and making a plan as early as possible.

Additional Comments

It has been more than two years, I think… Thank you for looking after me for such a long time.

I don’t think I could have obtained permanent residence without the help of Shiraishi VisaJP Canada and Ms. Sakurai, the immigration consultant. Thank you so much!!
