Why did you decide to immigrate to Canada?

I came to Canada after working holidays in Australia and New Zealand. When I first came to Canada, I had no intention of settling permanently, but I gradually came to appreciate Canada’s diversity, work style and people, and a desire to settle here grew.

What was the most memorable part of the process?

In our case, we had once applied for the PNP through an employer and been refused. After that, we were considering reapplying, but the required points kept going up almost every month, and figuring out how to make up the points was the hardest part.

Before COVID-19, it was a tough situation in which we had to raise everything, our English scores, education and salary, and it was mentally hard too.

After three years of aiming for permanent residence, we have finally obtained PR. The economic situation caused by COVID-19 brought us this result.

What I felt while in Canada is that the immigration landscape changes a lot, and that there are many ways to obtain permanent residence.

First, I think it’s best to consult a specialist about how good your chances of permanent residence are and which categories apply to you. You can’t change your past education or work history, so being conscious of improving your English as much as possible on a daily basis will be very helpful for your immigration application too.

We don’t know when there might be another sudden immigration reform. Just knowing in advance what kinds of documents will be needed will be helpful.
