Obtaining Permanent Residence in a Different Occupation from Their Career in Japan|Client I

Date Posted:January 27, 2017

Last Updated:September 24, 2026

Aiming to immigrate since a working holiday, Client I attended a free Shiraishi VisaJP Canada seminar through an introduction from the president of their workplace, and after moving from a co-op visa to a work permit, asked us to handle a permanent residence application under BCPNP ELSS. Despite stricter work permit reviews and the suspension of BC PNP intake, the client obtained permanent residence in about 30 months.

The client was a dental hygienist in Japan but obtained permanent residence in a completely different occupation. For those in medical professions, aiming for permanent residence through a different job can sometimes be the quicker route.

Client Comments

Why did you decide to immigrate to Canada?

From the time I first came to Canada on a working holiday, my goal was to immigrate.

What made you choose Shiraishi VisaJP Canada?

I was introduced to Shiraishi VisaJP Canada by the president of the company I was working for at the time, and it all started when I attended their free seminar. I also had a counselling session, and when I said I wanted to immigrate, I was told that immigrating would be difficult in my situation at the time. The other options were to attend school, or to apply through marriage or as a common-law partner. I chose the former and switched to a co-op visa.

What was the most memorable part of the process?

After that, I applied for a work permit, and after working for nine months, I was finally able to apply for immigration. At that time, work permit reviews were becoming stricter and the BC PNP was about to stop accepting applications, and I was affected by this. What was supposed to take a few months took a year, and I switched to a visitor visa to stay in Canada. During that time, Ms. Shiraishi and the Shiraishi VisaJP Canada team kept in contact with the provincial government, kept track of the situation and kept me informed, so although I was nervous toward the end as my visa was about to expire, I was able to wait patiently. Thanks to them, I was successfully nominated just a few days before my visa expired.

After the application was submitted to the immigration office, the review was completed in about a year, which was a little faster than I had imagined, and I was happy.

How was your experience using Shiraishi VisaJP Canada’s services?

My job has extremely busy periods, so I really feel that I could not have obtained it so smoothly without asking Ms. Shiraishi for help.

It took a long time, six years since my working holiday, so my joy is all the greater.

Future outlook and a message for those planning to travel to Canada

In the future, I would like to try the kind of work I did in Japan as well.
