From a Working Holiday Through Two LMIA Work Permits to Permanent Residence｜Client I

The permanent residence review under Express Entry took longer than expected, but I am happy that I obtained it successfully.

Why did you decide to immigrate to Canada?

I came to Canada about four years ago. At the time, I simply hoped to improve my English, which I had always been interested in.

However, as I lived here, I really came to love the fact that, unlike my life in Japan where all I did was work, here I could spend much of the day on my hobbies and the things I enjoy. I also met a partner I wanted to be with for good, and I began to want to settle here permanently.

What made you choose Shiraishi VisaJP Canada?

While I was researching permanent residence, I saw an advertisement for a free seminar held by Shiraishi VisaJP Canada. I thought that rather than doing nothing, it would be good to first hear what the experts had to say, so I attended. I learned a lot from the various talks at the seminar and was able to get a great deal of information. At the same time, I remember feeling that the permanent residence application was complicated and that I could not do it on my own.

What was the most memorable part of the process?

The hardest part was a sudden rule change. Until about three years earlier, holding an LMIA-based work permit would have added 600 points to my profile, making it much more likely that I could obtain permanent residence, but because of a sudden rule change, that no longer applied.

Also, after receiving my ITA (Invitation to Apply for permanent residence) and submitting my permanent residence application, I had to wait a very long time. What should have taken six months took nearly a year. During that time I had no idea what was happening and felt restless. (laughs)
