Obtaining Permanent Residence in an In-Demand Occupation in Canada|Client M

Date Posted:October 27, 2020

Last Updated:September 24, 2026

After staying in Canada on a working holiday and being hired as a designer, Client M consulted Shiraishi VisaJP Canada about a work permit. Instead of an LMIA-based work permit, we proposed applying through BCPNP, and the client obtained permanent residence in just under a year.

I successfully immigrated through the BCPNP Tech Pilot.

Why did you decide to immigrate to Canada?

I have been interested in English since I was little, and I loved talking with native-speaking teachers at an English conversation school. In high school, I entered an international course and spent my high school years immersed in English, but afterward I went on to an art and design university and studied graphic design. Even after I started working, I had opportunities to use English, but I did not particularly want to go abroad or live overseas.
A few years after I started working as a designer, it suddenly occurred to me that now I might be able to combine English, which I had been exposed to since childhood, with design. From there, I began planning things such as a working holiday, funds for studying abroad and when to leave Japan, and about a year and a half later I came to Canada.

Originally I was thinking of staying for about a year and a half, so I am the one most surprised that I am still in Canada and have had my permanent residence approved. To keep working at the company that finally hired me after a tough job search, I needed a work permit, so I contacted Shiraishi VisaJP Canada for advice. There, I was told that rather than obtaining a work permit that requires an LMIA, applying through BCPNP, one of the permanent residence programs, would place less burden on the company and allow me to obtain a work permit sooner. Because I was working in the IT industry, which BC is focusing on, I was able to meet the points required for the application and move forward with it.

What made you choose Shiraishi VisaJP Canada?

A colleague of mine had been going through a visa application with Shiraishi VisaJP Canada, so I thought that with the same consultant, who already knew our company, it would be easy to ask, and I asked them to handle my application.

What was the most memorable part of the process?

Honestly, getting hired as a full-time employee was harder than applying for permanent residence. Finding a job is tough when you are a foreigner who does not speak English fluently and has no work experience abroad. My experience in Japan did help me get hired, but the job search until I was employed full-time was long.

In my case, I think every step of the process went smoothly. I have heard of cases where applications were refused because of incomplete or missing documents, or where applications just would not move forward, so I was really lucky not to have a single problem.

Also, while COVID-19 was affecting all kinds of applications, I can only say I was lucky that my application was approved nearly six months earlier than expected. When I was notified of the approval, Ms. Sakurai, who was in charge of my case, was truly happy for me, and I was filled with gratitude, feeling that this was a permanent residence I had obtained with the support of so many people.

How was your experience using Shiraishi VisaJP Canada’s services?

The fee for the application service is not cheap, but I feel I received service and support worth more than what I paid. They were always fully prepared for the next step, and their explanations were thorough, so I could move forward with the application without hesitation.

They also handled things such as coordinating the necessary documents with my company and checking the application status with the immigration authorities, which I could not have done smoothly on my own, so I am really glad I asked them. I had some worries before applying, but I am truly grateful that, thanks to Ms. Sakurai’s quick responses and generous support, my application was approved.

Future outlook and a message for those planning to travel to Canada

Going forward, I would like to go to school to further broaden my knowledge. I am really happy that having permanent residence makes tuition cheaper and school easier to attend, and that, since I no longer have to worry about visas, I can act on things I have long wanted to do.

After thinking it over a lot, I went to Shiraishi VisaJP Canada for a consultation, and they told me the best approach for my situation, so I decided right away to apply for permanent residence. Before that visit, I had not even considered applying for permanent residence, so if I had not consulted them then, I might not have stayed in Canada.

Information about permanent residence applications changes often, so I recommend first consulting someone with expert knowledge. The staff will support you carefully and will surely find the approach that suits you.
