What is Saskatchewan Express Entry?
Saskatchewan Express Entry is a category for skilled workers who are registered in Express Entry, the federal government’s permanent residence application management system. When the province nominates a candidate with high skills in an in-demand Saskatchewan occupation, 600 points are added to the candidate’s Express Entry score (CRS), which effectively guarantees an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residence. Its greatest advantage is speed: thanks to priority processing by the federal government, the permanent residence assessment after nomination is normally completed within six months.
Eligibility Requirements for Saskatchewan Express Entry
You must be accepted into the Express Entry pool of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) and hold a valid profile number and job seeker validation code. You must also pay the CAD 500 application fee (non-refundable) online.
Points Assessment
You must score at least 60 points out of 110 on the SINP points assessment grid. Points are calculated on five factors: education, work experience, language ability, age, and connection to Saskatchewan. Invitations to Apply (ITA) are issued first to the highest-scoring candidates in the EOI pool.
Work Experience
In an occupation that is not on the excluded occupations list, you need one of the following types of work experience related to your education. In every case, the experience must be related to the field of the post-secondary education (university, college, etc.) you completed.
- Skilled Professionals: at least one year of work experience within the past 10 years.
- Skilled Tradespeople: at least two years of work experience within the past five years.
- Canadian experience (Canadian Experience Class candidates): at least one year of work experience in Canada within the past three years.
Language Ability
You need a score of CLB 7 or higher on an English or French language test designated by the immigration authorities, taken within two years before the date of application. Please use the table below to check whether your score meets CLB 7.
| Test | Language | Reading | Writing | Listening | Speaking | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| CLB 7 | IELTS | English | 6.0 | 6.0 | 6.0 | 6.0 |
| CELPIP | English | 7 | 7 | 7 | 7 | |
| PTE Core | English | 60-68 | 69-78 | 60-70 | 68-75 | |
| TEF (on or after 2023/12/11) | French | 453-498 | 449-502 | 453-498 | 512-558 | |
| TEF (before that date) | French | 450-499 | 450-499 | 450-499 | 450-499 | |
| TCF | French | 453-498 | 10-11 | 458-502 | 10-11 |
Education
You must have completed at least one year of post-secondary education by Canadian education standards and obtained a degree, diploma or certificate related to your occupation. For education obtained outside Canada, an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) from a designated organization must be submitted. Training completed up to high school graduation does not require an ECA, but a provincial licence may be required.
Settlement Funds and Settlement Plan
You must submit proof of sufficient settlement funds to support your life in Saskatchewan, together with a settlement plan showing your intention to settle permanently in the province.
Who Cannot Apply and Cases That May Be Refused
Who Cannot Apply Under This Category
- Those who have not been accepted into the federal Express Entry pool.
- Those who have made a refugee claim to the Government of Canada.
Cases That May Be Refused
- Where not all required documents are submitted with the application (the application fee is not refunded).
- Where you cannot demonstrate your intention to live and work in Saskatchewan.
- Where the application or supporting documents contain false information (a ban on applying for up to two years or more may be imposed).
Application Process for Saskatchewan Express Entry
01Submit an EOI (Expression of Interest)
First, submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) through the SINP online system. Your Express Entry profile number and related information are required.
02Receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA)
From the EOI pool, the SINP sends an Invitation to Apply to candidates with high scores. After the invitation, you must gather documents proving the points you claimed.
03Apply online to the SINP and pay the fee
After the invitation, submit your formal application online and pay the CAD 500 application fee. All required documents must be uploaded in PDF format.
04SINP assessment and receipt of the provincial nomination
Once you pass the SINP assessment, Saskatchewan issues a provincial nomination. This adds 600 points to your Express Entry score.
05Invitation from IRCC and application
After receiving an invitation to apply for permanent residence from the federal government, formally submit your permanent residence application to IRCC.
06IRCC assessment
Because the application is linked to Express Entry, it receives priority processing; the assessment is normally completed within six months and the CoPR is issued.
07Landing
Applicants outside Canada enter the country with their CoPR, while applicants inside Canada complete the landing procedure online to finalize their registration as permanent residents.
08Receive your PR card
A few months after landing is completed, the PR card is delivered to your designated address.
