BC PNP Receives 1,000 Additional Nominations for 2026|Annual Allocation Increased to 6,254

Date Posted:August 19, 2026

Last Updated:August 19, 2026

The Government of British Columbiaannounced on August 18, 2026, that the British Columbia Provincial NomineeProgram (BC PNP) has received an additional 1,000 nominationsfrom the federal government for 2026.

As a result, the BC PNP’s totalnomination allocation for 2026 has increased from 5,254 to 6,254nominations.

1,000 Additional Nominations Added for 2026

The additional 1,000 nominations willbe used in accordance with the updated program objectives announced by the BCPNP on April 23, 2026.

The BC PNP has been focusing itslimited nomination allocation on priority areas that support British Columbia’seconomic and labour market needs. The newly allocated nominations will also beused in line with these updated program objectives.

It is important to note that thisannouncement does not mean that the BC PNP is opening 1,000 new applicationspots.

Rather, it means that the province hasreceived authorization from the federal government to issue up to 1,000additional provincial nominations during 2026.

BC PNP Plans to Use the Full Allocation by the End of 2026

The BC PNP stated that it plans to useits full allocation of 6,254 nominations by December 31, 2026.

The program has undergone significantchanges in 2026 following a substantial reduction in provincial nominationallocations from the federal government. The BC PNP has also adjusted itsprogram priorities and invitation approach to make use of its limitednomination allocation.

The additional 1,000 nominationstherefore represent an important development for the BC PNP and provide someadditional capacity for the province to nominate candidates during theremainder of 2026.

However, applicants should not assumethat the additional allocation means that opportunities have increased equallyacross all BC PNP streams or occupations. How the additional nominations willbe distributed and when invitations will be issued will depend on the program’scurrent priorities and future announcements.

Those considering the BC PNP in 2026should therefore continue to monitor the program’s invitation trends andpriority areas rather than simply viewing the announcement as an additional1,000 application spaces.

The BC PNP is expected to continue allocating its limited2026 nominations toward candidates and areas that align with British Columbia’scurrent economic and labour market priorities.

Shiraishi Visa JP Canada’s Comments

The additional 1,000 nominations arecertainly positive news for the BC PNP, increasing the number of provincialnominations British Columbia can issue in 2026 to 6,254.

However, it is important to understandthat the additional1,000 nominations do not mean that the BC PNP is opening 1,000 new applicationspots. Rather, the announcement means that the total number ofnominations the BC PNP is authorized to issue during 2026 has increased.

The BC PNP announced in April 2026 thatit would focus its limited nomination allocation on priority areas that alignwith British Columbia’s economic and labour market needs. Therefore, animportant question going forward will be how and when the additional 1,000nominations will be allocated among different occupations, categories, orpriorities.

Given the significant changes to the BCPNP’s program priorities and invitation approach in 2026, applicants should notsimply assume that the additional allocation means that it has become easier toapply or receive an invitation.

For anyone considering the BC PNP, it will be increasinglyimportant to monitor which occupations and candidate profiles the provinceprioritizes and how invitations are issued during the remainder of 2026.
