What is the Farm Stream?

This stream provides experienced agricultural operators who plan to purchase or establish a farm in Alberta with the opportunity to apply for a provincial nomination and, once nominated, apply to live and work permanently in Alberta.

Farm Stream Eligibility Requirements

Farm Management Skills

  • Candidates must demonstrate farm management skills. Proof includes, but is not limited to:
  • Financial documentation of existing farm business operations.
  • Documentation of education, training, and work experience.
  • A proposed business plan for the agricultural enterprise under consideration in Alberta.
  • Documentation showing a Canadian financial institution is willing to finance your proposed farming operation.

Sufficient Financial Resources

Submit documentation demonstrating a minimum net worth of 500,000 CAD, or confirmation of the ability to secure equivalent funds from other sources.

Primary Production Investment

Submit a proposed farm business plan for operating in Alberta.

Farm Stream Application Process

The application method changed on September 30, 2024, with the introduction of the EOI system: Introduction of EOI System to Alberta Advantage Immigration Program [Registration starts September 30, 2024]

01Meet Farm Stream Eligibility Requirements

Before submitting an application, verify that you meet the minimum eligibility requirements.

02Complete the AAIP Online Form

Review the AAIP Farm Stream Document Checklist, prepare all required forms, upload supporting documents, and pay the $3,500 application fee.

03Submit Application to AAIP

Once you receive an invitation to apply via email from Alberta, complete and submit your application. Your application will enter the candidate pool and be assessed by the AAIP for provincial nomination.

04Receive Provincial Nomination

Once the AAIP processing office completes the assessment of your application, the decision will be communicated to you. An approved application results in receiving a provincial nomination certificate.

05Update Your Profile

Upon receiving your nomination, update your profile in the federal immigration online system to reflect that you have been nominated by the province.

06Submit PR Application to IRCC

Submit all required documents to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) through your online portal account and pay the required processing fee.

07Application Processing by IRCC

Once IRCC completes the processing of your permanent residence application, a Confirmation of Permanent Residence (CoPR) letter will be issued.

08Landing

Applicants outside Canada must enter Canada with their CoPR document. Applicants within Canada can complete the landing process online.

09Receive PR Card

Within a few months after landing, your physical PR card will be delivered to your designated mailing address in Canada.
