What is the Farm Stream?
This stream provides experienced agricultural operators who plan to purchase or establish a farm in Alberta with the opportunity to apply for a provincial nomination and, once nominated, apply to live and work permanently in Alberta.
Farm Stream Eligibility Requirements
Farm Management Skills
- Candidates must demonstrate farm management skills. Proof includes, but is not limited to:
- Financial documentation of existing farm business operations.
- Documentation of education, training, and work experience.
- A proposed business plan for the agricultural enterprise under consideration in Alberta.
- Documentation showing a Canadian financial institution is willing to finance your proposed farming operation.
Sufficient Financial Resources
Submit documentation demonstrating a minimum net worth of 500,000 CAD, or confirmation of the ability to secure equivalent funds from other sources.
Primary Production Investment
Submit a proposed farm business plan for operating in Alberta.

01Meet Farm Stream Eligibility Requirements
Before submitting an application, verify that you meet the minimum eligibility requirements.
02Complete the AAIP Forms
Review the AAIP Farm Stream Document Checklist, prepare all of the forms required for your application, and update your supporting documents. The application fee for applications submitted on or after April 1, 2025 is $3,500.
03Mail Your Application to the AAIP
Mail your original application package, including the receipt for your application fee, to the AAIP. Applications submitted by email or fax are not accepted.
04Receive Confirmation That Your Application Was Received
The AAIP will send you an email confirming that your complete application package has been received. This email includes your AAIP file number. An AAIP officer will then assess your application against the Farm Stream eligibility criteria.
05Receive Provincial Nomination
Once the AAIP processing office completes the assessment of your application, the decision will be communicated to you. An approved application results in a provincial nomination. If you are nominated, you will receive a package that includes your certificate of nomination and information about the next steps of your application.
06Submit PR Application to IRCC
Submit all required documents to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) through your online portal account and pay the required processing fee.
07Landing
Once your permanent residence application is approved, applicants inside Canada will be able to download their Confirmation of Permanent Residence (CoPR) online (virtual landing). Your status becomes permanent resident (PR) as soon as you download the CoPR. Applicants outside Canada must complete the process to receive their CoPR by mail and must arrive in Canada before their visa expires.
08Receive PR Card
Within a few months after landing, your physical PR card will be delivered to your designated mailing address in Canada.
